Deal appoints seven to boards

Timothy F. Ansley, State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors

Ansley is a builder with more than 40 years of experience in the construction industry. He is a Benedictine Military School graduate and he attended Armstrong Atlantic and Savannah State Colleges. He is an Army veteran who served his nation in Vietnam, and he has been active in many veteran organizations. An ancestor of Ansley, Thomas Ansley, constructed the Rock House near Thomson in 1782, and Ansley has continued that proud tradition of building. He is active in many civic organizations, particularly the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee. He served on the original State Board for Residential and General Contractors. He and his wife, Gail, live in Savannah. They have six grown children and nine grandchildren.

Andrea N. Boswell, State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology

The governor is reappointing Boswell, who currently chairs the board. Boswell is serving as a preschool diagnostician in the area of speech-language pathology. She has been a diagnostician for Fulton County for the past 18 years. For 13 years prior, she served the Fulton and Clayton County school systems as a speech-language pathologist. Boswell also served as a speech therapist in South Carolina’s Berkeley County. She has been active in the Georgia Speech-Language Pathology Hearing Association, chairing numerous committees and holding the offices of secretary, vice president and continuing education director. She received her undergraduate degree from University of Wisconsin and her master’s in Speech-Language Pathology from Georgia State University. Boswell and her husband, Phillip, reside in Peachtree City. Their two children are students at the University of Georgia.

Jim Barco, Private Colleges and Universities Authority

Barco currently serves Brenau University as its Senior Vice President for Development. He has been with Brenau since 1999 and has more than 30 years experience in higher education leadership. Barco received his bachelor’s degree from Catawba College and his master’s at Florida State University. He has served on the board of the Council for the Advancement of Education and National Committee on Planned Giving and was a vestry member at Grace Episcopal. He and his wife, Janie, live in Gainesville. They have one daughter and two grandchildren.

Mary B. Chatman, Ph.D.(c), R.N., State Board of Nursing

Chatman is currently Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services at Memorial University Medical Center, where she is responsible for all nursing and ancillary clinical departments. She serves as a new member to the Savannah Technical College Board and the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools Education for A.L.L. Foundation. Chatman earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from East Carolina University. She is currently completing her doctorate at ECU. She and her husband, Slade, live in Savannah and have two children.

Chris Joiner, Georgia Construction Industry Licensing Board: Division of Electrical Contractors

Joiner has been an electrical contractor since 1999. He attended an independent electrical contracting school in Atlanta and Lockyear College in Morganville, Ky. Joiner is a third-generation electrician with experience in residential, commercial and industrial contracting. Joiner lives in Warner Robins and has a 12-year-old daughter.

Karen I. Mathiak, D.C., Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners

Mathiak has served on the Chiropractic Board since 2003 and has been president for the past three years. She also serves on the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners. She is a graduate of Life University in Marietta. She and her husband, Marty, have one son. They live in Griffin.

S. Aaron McWhorter, Board of Natural Resources

McWhorter is the owner and president of North Georgia Turf, Inc. and Sports Turf Company, Inc. North Georgia Turf is a sod farming operation located in North Georgia focused on growing specialized grasses for home lawns and recreational areas. Sports Turf Company is a general contracting firm specializing in athletic field construction including natural and artificial fields, running tracks and recreation complexes. He is a current member of the General Contractors Licensing Board and past president of the Georgia Turfgrass Association and the Georgia Sod Producers Association. McWhorter is a past board member of the American Sports Builders Association. Sports Turf Company is a current member of the American Subcontractors Association and American General Contractors Association. He is a member of the West Georgia Regional Water Council and the Carroll County Water Authority. McWhorter earned a bachelor's degree in history and a master's degree in education from the University of West Georgia. He resides in Whitesburg with his wife, Linda. They have three children and four grandchildren.
